All About Live Scoring

Every day at PlayHQ, we’re working to bring you new and innovative product features, every one of them designed to unleash the life-changing power of sport at incredible scale. 

One of our recent (and proudest) achievements is the release of our Live Scoring platform, which can handle the data from thousands of community sports matches at any given moment, letting organisers and participants score their games in real time while fans and family members follow along on any device, from anywhere in the world.

If you’ve been part of the PlayHQ community for a while now, you’d be familiar with eScoring. Put simply, Live Scoring is eScoring taken to a whole new level; instead of waiting for your game to finish to upload your scores and stats, Live Scoring does it all on the fly, instantly syncing every point the moment it’s recorded, then automatically updating your ladders and fixtures once the game is over.

How it works

To prepare a Live Scoring session, first you’ll need to check with your league or association to make sure you’ve been given access. Then, head to score.playhq.com and log in using your admin credentials. Once the session is set up, and your device is ready and connected to Wi-Fi, it can be used by literally anyone – club admins, volunteers, reserve players (or just a lucky parent who gets plucked from the sidelines). The platform uses a super-simple layout, incredibly straightforward controls, and was designed so it could be picked up by anyone, with any level of experience, and used at a moment’s notice.

And if you’re looking to follow along with a game, simply head to playhq.com and search for your club or association. You’ll see a list of fixtures, which will change from ‘upcoming’ to ‘live’ once a game is in progress. Click on any live game, sit back, and watch it all unfold in real time.

After the game

You’ll need a referee to enter a session PIN to sign-off on the final score – and that’s it! If for any reason your device wasn’t connected to Wi-Fi during the game, it’ll sync as soon as it’s connected to the internet again. But, assuming your device was online throughout the match, you’ll see the match statistics are already synced across your account – with your club’s upcoming fixtures updated automatically.

Why we love it

In all the uncertainty of 2021, there were moments when community sports teams were playing to empty arenas while their parents waited in the parking lot, unable to enter the venue. Thanks to PlayHQ’s Live Scoring app, the players’ families could follow along in real time, bringing them close to the action even when they couldn’t be there in person. 

This is just one example of how we believe new sports technology can make the world a better place, and bring people together – by making community sport smarter, more transparent, and more accessible for all.
